Responsibilities
- Haul refrigerated freight on regional or dedicated routes for steady customers
- Run assigned lanes and keep deliveries on schedule
- Complete DOT pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Hook and unhook trailers, raise and lower landing gear, and connect air and electrical lines
- Load, unload, and secure freight when the load calls for it
- Keep hours of service records accurate and up to date
- Plan trips and choose safe, legal routes
- Fill out delivery paperwork correctly in English
- Stay in contact with dispatch and treat customers well
- Handle food grade tanker or hazmat loads if you hold the right endorsements
Qualifications
- Class A commercial driver license
- At least 22 years old
- Hazardous materials endorsement, along with a social security card or birth certificate at hire
- One year of verifiable tractor-trailer over the road experience with an irregular route carrier for first seat drivers, verified through a company safety department, not an owner operator
- Experience requirement does not apply to driving school students
- Good references from past employers
- No reckless or careless driving citations in the last 3 years
- No more than 4 moving violations in the last 3 years
- No major preventable accidents in the last 12 months, and no more than 2 in the last 3 years
- Pass a company road test, DOT physical, and drug test
- US citizen or registered alien with full work documentation, including visa status and work permit
- Able to read, write, and speak English
- Meet DOT physical standards for vision, hearing, and general health
- Able to climb in and out of the cab, bend, twist, and work around the tractor and trailer
- Able to lift up to 100 pounds and handle freight as needed
